The towering 90 metre carbon mast of M5 (originally built as Mirabella, the largest sloop in the world) has since the beginning of her life been taken care of by the team which now runs International NDT. In April of this year the rig has been unstepped in Carrara, Italy in an enormous operation which required a 500 tonne crane delivered in pieces by 14 lorries.
During the extensive rig refit project International NDT have been carrying out structural inspections to all components of the rig, including mast and boom. Particular attention was given to some issues that had been flagged up and the results will determine the specification of replacement components.
